Some Kadoma councillors are resisting the introduction of a Business Development Committee saying it’s a duplication of committees.

The BDC is the idea of former Local Government Minister Winston Chitando who has since been transferred to the Mines Ministry.

The April Full Council meeting was characterised by acute disagreements over the Committee.

While some Councillors have accepted the new Committe others want it banded with the Finance Committee.

Town Clerk Malvin Dondo had to propose a Special Council to deliberate over the issue.

“Since this is the first time we have to deal with the BDC, we can table it now, then call a special meeting.

“At the same time, (we will) consult on how best to settle on that matter.

“We can proceed in the best interest of our agenda and progress.”

According to former Minister Chitando the BDC vehicle will be used by Councils, to find ways to get more revenue.

Councils are also expected to use the platform to forge partnerships with private entities.

Usually Councils only have Housing, Human Resources, Finance, Works and Health committees among some committees.
