Councillors have accused team officials of siphoning funds from Council owned Chegutu Pirates Football Club leading to massive losses.
The team has allegedly failed to remit any funds to Council despite racking in approximately US$50 000 since the season started.
A Committee instituted to investigate the situation says it has since handed over its findings to authorities.
Finance Committee Chairperson Cllr Collin Mhara said they are keen for a resolution on the matter.
“We’ve a committee that was tasked with investigating alleged abuse of funds at our club.
“The team did their job and presented a report to responsible authorities.
“However, we’ve been at that same stage for ages. We feel this is not justified.”
Assistant Human Resources Manager, Bright Tembo said they’re still ooking into recommendations from the audit committee.
Nonetheless Cllrs feel the period is too long since the time the red flag was raised on the issue.
Impeccable sources state that the club collects at least US$5 000 when they play at their home ground.
At the time of writing the club had played 10 home matches.
This translates to gate earnings of at least US$50 000.
However, some indentified individuals are said to be siphoning gate takings from ‘Zaire’ as the team is popularly known as.
