A major leak on one of Bulawayo’s major water lines has resulted in a complete shutdown of the City’s water supply.

Only the Industrial and Central Business Districts will have water until repairment is complete.

Bulawayo Town Clerk Christopher Dube announced the measures last night.

“The city of Bulawayo would like to advise members of the public of water supply interruptions and suspension of the water shedding program to all city areas except Industry and Central Business District.

“This is due to a major leak on the Flowerserve Raw water line between Ncema Waterworks and Fernhill Booster Stations.

Dube said the measure are aimed at protecting the reservoirs from collapsing due to reduced treatment and production.

Council expect the resumption of the current water supply schedule to resume on July 1st.

Bulawayo has been facing acute water shortages due to poor water supply.

This has been worsened by the current El Nino-induced drought.

Last week Mayor David Coltart called for Government to provide part of the promised US$14 million to deal with the issue.
