Christopher Dube’s tenure as Bulawayo Town Clerk has come to an end after his contract was not renewed.

The previous 4 year contract ended on September 30, 2024.

An announcement by Acting City Mayor Councillor Edwin Ndlovu confirmed this development.

Ndlovu said they had made efforts to renew the contract but they failed to get an approval from the Local Government Board.

“Whereas council had resolved on 7 February 2024 to extend the contract, subject to approval by the Local Government Board, a request for approval was sent to the Local Government Board on 25th March 2024.

“However, by the end of day on 30 September 2024, such approval had not been obtained,” he said.

Chamber Secretary Mrs. Sikhangele Zhou is the acting town clerk until a substantive TC is found.

Contract Agreement

Dube’s contract was initially extend in September last year.

This was in alignment with legislative changes under the Public Entities Corporate Governance Act.

According to Bulawayo Mayor David Coltart, it was an endorsement of Dube’s leadership.

Dube was recruited from Victoria Falls in October 2016 on a four-year term limit contract up to September 2020.

The contract was subject to renewal dependent on performance.

The contract was fixed at two four-year terms and the initial contract expired in September, 2020.

It was renewed in October of the same year (2020) and it expired in September, 2024.
