Former Chiredzi Town chairman, Francis Moyo has been arrested by the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission over charges from a 2013 case.

He appeared at the Chiredzi Regional Court on Friday.

Moyo is accused of criminal abuse of duty as a public officer.

According to the State in 2013, a developer, Inotrade Investments applied for stands in Chiredzi from the Ministry of Local Government.

It was offered 50 residential stands in Tshovani for development.

However, Moyo, using his position corruptly benefitted from the 50 stands reserved for the Ministry of Local Government.

In 2014, through another elaborate plot, Moyo, who doubled Chairperson of the Justin Chauke Housing Cooperative entered into partnership with Inotrade Investments.

Under the deal the Cooperative would develop 50 housing stands.

However an investigation on Chiredzi by the Ministry of Local Government in 2016 established that no land intrinsic value was paid to the Ministry for the 50 stands.

Through that arrangement the Ministry suffered prejudice of US$60 000.

Moyo was remanded out of custody to the 8th of March.
