Harare’s Acting Finance Director Godfrey Kusangaya has accused Council seniors of arranging too many workshops.
Kusangaya revealed this matter while giving evidence before the Maphios Cheda-led Commission of Inquiry.
According to the Director only this year Council spent over ZiG230 million on utility workshops.
“We would hold workshops weekly and sometimes twice a week between December 2023 to July 2024.
“I would approach my seniors to say that maybe we need to scale down or confine to those which are necessary.
“The appointment of the Commission of Inquiry for Harare stopped the meetings plus also the directive from the parent ministry” he said.
Asked about efforts by Council to craft a response to the setting of the Commission, Kusangaya admitted it was possible.
“Yes, I think there was a proposal about that but it’s only that those workshops were stopped by the Ministry.
The investigation by the Cheda Commission has become a slow disemboweling of Harare Council.
Lurid operational details have shown Council officials to be on a mission of self-aggrandizement.
Such has been the heap of illegal deals that the mission to remove Councillors may be completed with little opposition.
