Marondera Municipality has announced plans to conduct dog census and licensing operations, as roaming dog numbers surge in the city.
The initiative aims to enforce dog licensing by-laws and ensure dog owners keep pets under control.
In a statement Council said,”the initiative is a response to the observed growth in the dogs population and increase in the number of stray dogs.
“To this end the Council will deploy dog licensing officials to perform the dog census and licensing blitz.
According to Marondera Municipality Stray Animals by-laws and Section 83 (1) Part X of the Urban Council Act (Chapter 29:15), no owner is permitted to allow their domestic pet to roam beyond the limit of their property.
Council urged dog owners to keep their dogs within property.
“Members of the public are reminded that any dog found roaming in the street unleashed will be classified as a stray and may be euthanized,” said Council in a statement.
