Beneficiaries of the Elmswood housing scheme will this week meet with Marondera council in a bid to end the 8 year saga.
In a statement, the council has invited all beneficiaries to Rudhaka Stadium.
“The Municipality of Marondera is inviting all beneficiaries of the Elmswood Housing Project to a meeting at Rudaka Stadium open space on Saturday 17 February.
“The agenda is to discuss and map way forward regarding the development of the housing project.”
A Long And Old Story
Thousands of residents paid council between USD$1500 and US$500 to acquire stands from Marondera council in 2015.
They were supposed to get land in Elmswood.
This would be done with assistance of then Zanu PF candidate Lawrence Katsiru.
However, it later emerged that the land belonged to a private company called Swandev.
Thus no one was allocated any land leading to a loss of money.
Since then, the parties have been locked in the dispute with council over the way forward.
