Government has ordered Harare City Council to ask for permission first before organizing workshops outside the capital.
The decision was announced by Mayor Jacob Mafume during a Full Council meeting on Thursday.
“The Government says such workshops should be done with the approval of the government.
“I have (since) asked my staff to comply.
“We are here to protect residents’ affairs in good faith.
“So we have to comply with the government directive, which is our parent Ministry.
As reported here, Council officials have been attending multiple events outside the city which has riled residents.
Recently, the newly constituted Harare Sports Committee was in Kadoma where it held a workshop.
In June alone nearly a 100 Council officials attended various events in places that include Brazil, Victoria Falls and Nyanga.
All the events were funded by Council.
The actions have led to accusations from residents of Council having misplaced priorities.
