Gwanda’s ZWL$48B Budget Targets New Infrastructure

Gwanda RDC’s approved 2024 budget of ZWL$48 billion will invest over 75% of the money towards infrastructural programs.

Water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) programmes as well as developing the health and education sectors are also top budget priorities.

Under WASH projects the RDC will spend ZWL$7 billion building a piped water scheme, dam construction, water harvesting and drilling and rehabilitation of boreholes.

A further ZWL$19 billion of the budget will go towards social service.

These will include providing quality and adequate housing, education, health, social amenities and community services.

Gwanda budget statement revealed that they aim to construct ECD classroom blocks and service new stands.

A total of ZWL$4,7 billion will be channelled towards road maintenance while ZWL$1,4 billion will go towards natural resources conservation and management.

A further ZWL$936 million was allocated towards gender response programmes.

This will involve trainings on gender equality, gender-specific projects like waiting mothers’ shelters and facilitation of gender-based violence workshops.

Sources of Money

According to the budget statement ZWL$23,3 billion will be generated from the council revenue.

Other revenue streams include ZWL$22,6 billion from devolution funds and ZWL$1,5 billion from the road fund.

UNICEF is also expected to provide ZWL$84 million.

Major revenue streams for Gwanda include property taxes, estate funds and grants appropriated by Government.
