ZANU PF has been accused of pursuing an indoctrination agenda after inviting Council Chairpersons and Mayors for lectures under the Chitepo School Of Ideology.

The lectures will be conducted from 21 to 23 August at Rainbow Towers.

The mainly opposition Councillors were invited through a circular dated August 16, 2024.

“Local Authorities are a third tier of Government with devolved service delivery mandates.

“In this regard, they are engines towards the attainment of vision 2030.

“His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Cde Dr E.D Mnangagwa, launched the Call to Action, No-Compromise to Service Delivery blue print, on 01 November 2023, with a view of enhancing service delivery.

“In this regard, it is pertinent for Local Authorities to be exposed to the ideals of national security and patriotism, as espoused by the Chitepo School of Ideology.

“You are invited to attend a training by the Chitepo School of Ideology at Rainbow Towers.

However the move has drawn criticism from some quarters.

Ideological Orientation Or Indoctrination?

Meanwhile, Simbarashe Utete, a political scientist, said this could be a long term agenda by the ruling party.

“ZANU PF has lost control of much of the urban support and doesn’t look to possess the traction to regain that foothold.

“What better way to control the situation than indoctrinating those who are there and seek to turn them,” he said.

However, another Cllr who refused to be named for fear of victimisation said the lecture was of no use.

“The state of affairs in the country cannot be changed by a lecture about the war and nationalism.

“We have had years of that force-fed into us but we know what is bad is bad.

The Chitepo School of Ideology has come to be viewed as an instrument for indoctrination.

However, its supporters argue that it is designed to offer ideological orientation for all Zimbabweans.
