Kadoma has rolled out an ambitious US$122k water system rehabilitation project meant to double output.
The city aims to restore normalcy in a city reeling from erratic supply and dry taps for stretched periods.
Kadoma Mayor Nigel Ruzario outlined the magnitude of the project.
“We’ve instituted a US$112 700 water revamp project.
“To date, US$81 360 has been injected.
“The project seeks to double our pumping regime per station and we increased pump sets at Shore Pump Station from 2 to 4.
The Pasi Water Treatment now also has three pumps.
A fourth set awaits commissioning.
The Kadoma Council has also dealt with massive leaks along the system.
“Water leaks along the pumping line from Shore to Blue Ranges have been repaired and recurrent losses are attended to as and when they occur.
These interventions have seen some areas that had gone for years without tapped water.
Currently Kadoma is able to supply a maximum of 25 mega litres per day (MLD) against a built design of 42 MLD.
However, the city’s estimated demand sits at 60 MLD.
Ruzario said when the project is finally completed, by month-end, they expect to supply a maximum of 30 MLD.
