Masvingo city council Mayor Aleck Tabe and Town Clerk Engineer Edward Mukaratirwa will gobble US$20 000 over 4 days on a Dubai trip.
The two will be attending the International Smart Cities from 24 to 28 July.
“His Worship the Mayor and Town Clerk be authorized to attend the International Smart Cities, Smart Government, Mining and Trade Investment Forum to be held in Dubai.
“The cost will be USD 20706 for Air Travel including Air Tickets, Visas, Tours, Meals, Accommodation, Contingency and Travel and subsistence allowances,” reads Full Council minutes.
According to Council minutes, the forum will run under the theme, Investment Opportunities in Africa.
“Consideration was given to the report of the Town Clerk on the request for the Mayor and Town Clerk to attend the International Smart Cities, Smart Government, Mining and Trade Investment Forum.
“(It will) be held in Dubai from 24 to 28 July 2024 running under the theme, “Investment Opportunities In Africa’.
Investors are expected from UK, India, Italy, Rwanda and Austria.
For the two officials’ attendance the local authority will have to foot Visas, forum meetings, cocktails, teas, smart city tours at a cost of US$ 4500.
Air Tickets will gobble US$1790 while accommodation for the four days stands at US$ 2320.
Meals will cost US$2016 and the official will get subsistence allowances was pegged at US$ 9408 and Contingency allowance amount of US$672.
The event has been defended as a business and networking platform which is good for attracting investments to Masvingo.
Some of the panelists who will speak there include officials from the African Development Bank, Dubai Finance House, Eximbank of India and Development Bank of South Africa.
