Threats of garnished accounts have spurred Marondera Municipality to enact measure to deal with staggering debts exceeding ZiG 8.2 million and USD $420 000.
Speaking during a Marondera Full Council Acting Chambers Secretary Mr T Ndoro said Council will negotiate and offer swp deals.
“Our creditors’ list is increasing and we are in talks with some of those we owe so that we can clear the arrears.
“We are surviving on offsets with some of them, so we want to address that,” he said.
Marondera recently agreed to pay the National Social Security Authority (NSSA) $50 000 per week.
“A payment plan agreement has been reached with (NSSA) for weekly payments of $ 50 000 ongoing.
“Zimbabwe National Water Authority there is challenge on consistency of paying $50 000 per week due cash flows challenges.
“With Zimbabwe Electoral Supply Authority there are negotiations for offsetting still ongoing due to reconciliation issues.
Marondera said ZIMRA fiscalisation gadgets were purchased and council is currently in the process of registering them with ZIMRA.
Marondera Council has also drafted a letter requesting for VAT to be levied on actual collections rather billings.
