Government has revealed the next step in a scheme to install a Commission in Harare by vowing to deal with Council.
In a statement, Minister Daniel Garwe says he has noted a lot of malpractices at Council.
“The Minister of Local Government and Public Works has noted with concern various malpractices that have rendered the City of Harare ungovernable and chaotic.
“It is disheartening to note that the City Fathers have abandoned their core mandate of service delivery.
Instead, it said Council has”resorted to self-service through a number of corrupt activities at the expense of ratepayers.
“In light of this, the Government is determined to assist in restoring the city to functional status”.
However, in a warning of what is most likely coming, the Ministry says it has plans to deal with it.
“To this end, the Minister appeals to residents and the general public to be patient and support Government efforts to restore order in the city of Harare.
Government has already rolled out a Commission of Inquiry to investigate Council.
The hearing has been festival about Illegalities and criminal enterprises at the Local Authority.
Findings from the Maphios Cheda-led Inquiry are expected to provide justification for the incoming of Commission taking over Harare.
