The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) is set to conduct elections on 8 March in 3 Wards to replace Councillors who passed away.

The three Wards are Ward 3 of Chegutu Rural District Council, Ward 14 of Guruve Rural District Council and Ward 3 of Norton Town Council.

“It is notified in terms of Section 121A of the Electoral Act (Chapter 2:13) that following the deaths of Councillors for Ward 3 of Chegutu Rural District Council, Ward 14 of Guruve Rural District Council and Ward 3 of Norton Town Council, vacancies have arisen in the said Councils.

“The Nomination Courts for purposes of receiving nominations of candidates for election as Councillors for the vacant Wards shall sit on Thursday 6 February 2025.

“The ZEC fixes Saturday 8 March as the day on which polling shall take place if it becomes necessary in terms of Section 125 (4)(b) of the Electoral Act.

In Norton the seat fell vacant following the death of Cllr Pritchard Paradzayi.

The former Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) politician died after a long illness.

However, following the implosion of CCC the ruling ZANU PF is well-set to regain some formerly lost seats.

The two main parties, CCC and ZANU PF, are yet to begin the processes to select candidates for the by-elections.
