Zinara says ZWL$235 billion (ZiG 93 952 017, 31) was disbursed to various Councils in the first quarter of 2024.

However, the bulk of the funds will be channelled towards road maintenance.

Zinara says it has already done a lot of major road works which are already functional.

“The larger proportion of the disbursement constituted funding for routine road maintenance projects.

It said in 2024 it has already launched several major road infrastructural programmes.

These include the Harare-Chirundu Highway and rehabilitation works on roads leading to the Parliament of Zimbabwe.

The latter is in preparation for the Sadc Heads of State Summit.

There has been a gradual increase in disbursed funds as various Councils, such as Harare, have complained before.

In 2023 it had disbursed $33 billion to road authorities in the country out of an allocation of $41 billion.

Zinara disbursed $43,8 billion in 2022 to Road Authorities under the Emergency Road Rehabilitation Programme 2 (ERRP2).

This was an increase of 21 percent from the prior year in inflation-adjusted terms.
