Norton residents are living in fear after a fourth murder case on Monday where the victim was dumped on railway tracks.

The body, found in Cabs area of Ward 11 is the fourth murder victim within the past 4 months.

The chilling trend has rattled residents who have called for more action from responsible authorities.

Norton MP Richard Tsvangirai said he was disturbed and has since engaged ZRP Norton.

“I understand the fear and concern this has brought to the people in Norton.

“Last week, I had a meeting with Mr. Makiwa of ZRP, and we resolved to take proactive steps to ensure the safety and well-being of everyone in Norton.

Tsvangirai said the ZRP will increase patrols in the evening while nightclubs will now close at 7 p.m.

Clr Shungu Tsomondo added that, “as women in leadership we will engage the police to find practical ways of curbing the scourge.

Norton has previously suffered a similar wave of murder cases in the past and they were attributed to makorokoza.

However the latest incidents have been attributed to the drug problem.

Ward 3 Councillor Pritchard Paradzayi said the situation is getting out of hand.

“These murders in Norton are seriously getting out of hand and tangible interventions need to be put in place like yesterday.”

ZRP Norton has however previously cited a shortage of resources to deal with the rising crime rate.

In 2022 they received a donation of two vehicles and over 20 bicycles from former Norton MP Temba Mliswa.

However the donation was refused by the ZRP for unclear reasons.
