Government has set in motion a program to rehabilitate roads in Midlands Province in preparation for 2025 Independence celebrations.

Cabinet recently agreed to host the event at Nembudziya Open Grounds at Nembudziya Growth Point in Gokwe North District.

However, the pathetic state of roads in the area means there is need for an overhaul way before the event.

“Cognisant of this, the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works is set to launch the Nhimbe/Ilima Road Rehabilitation Programme.

Under the project, the Kadoma Sanyati-Gokwe-Nembudziya Road will be the priority project.

“The programme involves all local authorities in a province identifying a priority road and pulling together resources to implement the project.

According to Cabinet minutes, the project will be funded by the Zimbabwe National Roads Authority (ZINARA).

It will get, “technical assistance being provided by the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development and the Rural Infrastructure Development Agency.

ZINARA has since been informed to fast track that disbursement of fuel and other resources for the programme.

The main task of the project, the Kadoma-Sanyati-Nembudziya road, will be rehabilitated and upgraded.

This route provides the main and shortest access, that is, Harare-Nembudziya and Gweru-Nembudziya.
