The City of Masvingo has officially concluded the review of its Master Plan with the signing ceremony marking the beginning of a new 20-year spatial development trajectory aimed at transforming the provincial capital.
This Masterplan lays out a visionary approach for investment across key sectors, including housing, industry, commerce, transportation, social services, and environmental management.
City Town Clerk Engineer Edward Mukaratirwa emphasized the importance of this document, stating it would serve as the spatial blueprint for through to 2046.
“The Master Plan functions as a spatial framework that outlines the projected growth and development of the city over the next two decades.
“It delineates land use strategies for residential areas, industry, commerce, transportation infrastructure, social services, open spaces, and environmental stewardship.”
He noted that the plan will also influence lower-level initiatives
It will also ensure that development strategies and infrastructure projects align with the city’s long-term vision.
Masvingo Mayor Councillor Alec Tabe announced a shift from planning to action.
“We are transitioning from a planning phase to execution.
“Our priority is to ensure that this 20-year vision translates into real enhancements in the lives of our residents.
This will include “improved services, increased investment, and fresh opportunities for local communities,” Tabe said.
He further highlighted the plan’s commitment to engaging regularly with residents, the government, and the private sector for continuous improvement.
“We acknowledge that the city’s needs will evolve over time.
“We are dedicated to routinely assessing the plan while collaborating with residents, government entities, the private sector, and other stakeholders to foster an inclusive, prosperous, and sustainable Masvingo,” he said.
