The Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) has resorted to interviewing its councilors in a move meant to resolve divisions created over the mayoral post.

A total of four CCC councillors declared their interests in contesting for the post.

This has resulted in massive smear campaigns and mudslinging within CCC.

Open Council Marondera has it on good authority that the number of contestants has been trimmed to two.

The nominees are Chengetai Murova (Ward 1) and Abel Nyakarombo (Ward 8).

The duo were interviewed at Marondera Central legislator Caston Matewu’s Nyameni homestead.

The results of the winner are expected later this week.

Marondera’s mayoral elections are set for next Monday at Council.

Ward 11 councillor (CCC) Saizi Vilela, who initially was interested in the post, confirmed the latest developments.

“I was not nominated for the interviews.

“(However) it is not a secret that Nyakarombo and Murova made it to the interviews.

“We are ready to work with the winner for the development of this town,” he said.

CCC won the majority after claiming nine of the twelve wards.
