The Municipality of Marondera has begun providing transport to People With Disabilities (PWDs), a move meant to include them in ongoing budget consultations.
A number of PWDs have been failing to attend the meetings due to mobility challenges.
Marondera Mayor Abel Nyakarombo confirmed the development.
He said the CCC-led council will make sure that PWDs are included in all deliberations.
“We are going to include everyone in the day to day running of this council.
“We realised that we have PWDs who are genuine ratepayers but are failing to attend meetings like budget consultations.
“This is now a thing of the past.
Council has allocated a commuter omnibus that will ferry this group to and from meetings.
Meanwhile, council has begun 2024 budget consultations with councillors being ordered to massively mobilise resident to take part in the deliberations.
Residents have generally failed to take part in previous consultations leading to problems with final council rates.
