Gutu United Residents and Ratepayers Association ( GURRA) have petitioned the Masvingo council over half down roads some from 1994.
In the petition, GURRA Chairman Mupfudze cited Chivhu-Lothian road, Gutu–Kurai road and Gutu–Buhera road.
“We understand that the road construction of Gutu-Buhera road and Gutu –Kurai road commenced sometime in 1994.
“The distance covered so far for both roads combined is less than 40km .
“The two roads are in a dilapidated state and require due attention.
“Chivhu-Lothian road is in a very bad state with potholes.
“This has proved to be major cause of accidents.
The road was used as a detour when the construction of Masvingo -Chivhu road was underway.
Mupfudze added that due to that the road suffered extensive damage and now requires resurfacing.
However, in his response the provincial roads engineer, Bright Rondozai said his office is enganging ‘relevant’ authorities.
Rondozai said there is need for timeous release funds for road rehabilitation in the district.
However, he added that the contractor, who was awarded the tender in1994, is expected to resume operations after a project revalidation exercise.
“The exercise is meant to ensure value for money for all projects undertaken by Government of Zimbabwe.
“We remain resolute in our commitment to deliver all roads projects in Gutu as we are taking bold steps to break convention for the benefit of the community,” he said.
