Marondera Rural District Council has presented a US$12.9 million 2025 budget focusing on road rehabilitation and improved service delivery.
The budget increased by 27% which is US$2.7 million from the previous year`s approved budget which was pegged at US$9.4million.
Council Finance Chairpeson Cllr Kefas Manda said the budget will focus on roads, social service and water, sanitation and hygiene.
Capital expenditure stands at US$7.2 million while revenue is expected to be US$ 4.8 million.
“The increase is mainly attributed to the valuation roll production.
Council is now required to charge monthly rates on all ratable properties basing on the value of the property.
“This is called progressive taxation, which is the best practice else worldwide,” he said.
Foremost, Marondera has struggled with water supply and is hard-pressed to get funding for the area.
Water shortages have worsened over the years due to a growing population and outdated water system.
Recently Almaxtec, a local consulting company in partnership with Australian-based company Almax Devine Care, expressed interest in investing in the expansion of Marondera Municipality’s water infrastructure system.
