Masvingo City Council has decided to ringfence 20% of shop license contributions to fund its struggling health sector.
The resolution was taken at the last Full Council after concerns raised by the Health, Housing and Environmental Services department.
“On capital projects for the department, the Chief Environmental Health Officer raised concern on non-implementation of capital projects in the budget due to lack of funding.
“The Committee could decide to ring fence 20% of revenue generated from shop licences and channel the funds towards capital projects for the department.
The idea was accepted by the Health Committee in principle.
Management has since been give the task to verify the strategy before implementation.
On average the local authority generates a monthly revenue of ZIG48, 730 0499,99.
Fees from shop licenses contribute 24% of the total revenue, according to the Finance Committee.
