Masvingo City is left with only two months supply of critical water treatment chemicals.

This was revealed by the Public Works Committee during  a recent full council meeting.

“On water treatment chemical stock levels,  Aluminium Sulphate would last for about 65 days.

“Hydrated lime was stocked to meet requirements for the next 34 days, while Chlorine Gas lasting 38 days.

“Chlorine HTH and Activated Carbon would be applied when necessary,” the committee said.

Due to this, Council raised  concern that Masvingo will be more vulnerable to cholera.

The country recently recorded 1 025 new suspected cholera cases.

However the committee comm nded the city’s water quality.

The water was tested and meets World Health Organisation (WHO) and Standards Association of Zimbabwe (SAZ) standards.
