Former Avondale, Ward 7 aspiring Councillor Duduzile Nyirongo has shifted her focus to corporate excellence after joining Baker Tilly Capital Zimbabwe.
Nyirongo said she was excited to begin her new journey at Baker Tilly.
“Thrilled to be joining Baker Tilly Capital family as a Partner!
“I’m eager to collaborate with this talented team and leverage my expertise in financial advisory, strategy and capital raising to contribute to the firm’s continued success.
Nyirongo campaigned for the Ward 7 seat during the 2018 elections.
Initially an independent, she joined hands with other independent candidates to contest under the People’s Own Voice (POVO) coalition.
Her campaign was marked by a professional approach in which she laid out a full manifesto and point plan.
“Party politics has destroyed our country; we have had party politics for a long time.
“I am not going to be in either Zanu-PF or in MDC, they both need to put their house in order.
“So I decided to play outside and have no political home,” Nyirongo said.
However, it wasn’t enough.
Together with Fadzai Mahere, campaigning for MP in Mt Pleasant in Harare and council candidates Evan Mawarire and Kudzai Mubaiwa, she was part of a band of supposedly fresh faces that unfortunately lost to the then opposition MDC-Alliance.
Nyirongo, who ran a highly visible campaign, conceded defeat to the MDC Alliance’s Happymore Gotora in Harare’s Ward 7.
“A big thank you to all those that supported me.
“I gave my very best but the people have spoken and decided that Gotora of the MDC Alliance be the councillor for Ward 7. Wishing him all the best,” she said.
The Chartered Accountant appears to have put that behind her as she now pursues a corporate career.
