Marondera Central legislator Caston Matewu has apologised to residents following Ward 8 Councillor Mubaiwa Dzvuke’s move to order the rehabilitation of a tarred road that passes through his home as well as grabbing a car park before constructing a shop.
Dzvuke was elected in 2018 under the then Nelson Chamisa-led MDC Alliance.
However, he remained in council after his colleagues were recalled after he crossed floor to the MDC-T led by Douglas Mwonzora.
Open Council Marondera some months ago ran a story on how the MDC-T councillors used their influence to force council employees to rehabilitate roads in their streets, angering residents.
Dzvuke defended himself saying, he applied to the council and it moved to repair the road.
However, in a statement, Matewu has described Dzvuke’s move as ‘self-centred’ and selfish.
“I must also make an apology to the people of Marondera for giving you Ward 8 Cllr Dzvuke in 2018.
“Little did we know he was self-centred and selfish.
“A councillor who chooses to put a tarred road in his street when Nyameni has many long stretches of bad roads.
“A Clr who grabs a stand between a bar and car park, that is his only achievement and nothing for the people.
“Such calibre of Cllrs should never be put anywhere near power; 2023 we shall root out such kindred,” said Matewu.
In an interview, Matewu said it is high time local leaders move on with the interests of the people and stop using their political offices for self gain.
