Harare Ward 16 Councilor Denford Ngadziore has revealed that his area is in need of transformers worth over US$16 million.

The transformers have been lost through vandalisation, theft and other reasons.

“In our community we have a shortage of over 1400 transformers due to theft and vandalism.

“Each transformer is supposed to accomodate around 100 households but currently each transformer is accommodating around 200+ households.

“This has caused many electrical faults in our community.

The Councilor added that authorities were also responding late to faults due to incapacitation.

“Zesa usually respond swiftly to all reported faults in our community.

“Currently Zesa is incapacitated to urgently replace all theft and vandalised transformers.

“This include theft and vandalised transformers backdated to 2011 and each transformer costs around USD12 000,” he added.

Due to the power challenges Ngadziore warned that people need to come up with alternative means as the problem will take long to be resolved.

“For those who are currently working from home my immediate advice is to find other alternative means of electricity”.

Ward 16 covers Mabelreign (Ashdown Park, Bloomingdale, Cotswold Hills, Greencroft, Haig Park, Lenana Park, Mabelreign Central and Madokero.

The other areas falling under the same are Matidoda Park, Mayfield, Meyrick Park, Nkwisi Park, Sanganayi Park, St. Andrews Park, Sentosa, Sherwood Park, Sunridge, Ridgeview and part of Westlea.
