Ward 1 Councillor Chengetai Murowa (CCC) was unanimously elected Marondera Mayor this week after all contestants withdrew.
This is the second time after he was also previously the town Mayor after the 2018 elections.
Murowa’s latest election follows the recalling of incumbent Mayor Abel Nyakarombo and four other councilors.
They were recalled by controversial CCC Interim Secretary General Sengezo Tshabangu.
Elected Unopposed
Initially, Cllr Muponda and Joel Mujaranji of Zanu PF were also eyeing the post but withdrew from contesting.
Mayor Murowa is going to be deputised by Cllr Mujaranji who was elected Deputy by unanimous vote.
In his acceptance speech, Clr Murowa stated that he will be a servant and a listening mayor.
“I am going to be your servant.
“In Marondera we have water challenges, sewer challenges and some of the roads were impassable.
“As your Mayor I am going to address all those issues,” he said.
Murowa added that the fight against corruption will also be priority for his council.
“This council will not tolerate any corrupt and unethical tendencies in the rank and file of council.”
