The Municipality of Marondera has taken over vehicle clamping and towing facilities following an outcry from residents and motorist on the conduct of the contracted company.
The move will see council collecting meaningful revenue after losing money in the flawed clamping deal.
Residents and motorists were at loggerheads with council as the clamping company, Zemqos Pvt Limited’s employees were in the habit of verbally and physically harassing clients.
Some of the employees were visibly drunk.
Open Council (OC) has it on good authority council got little in remittances from the company prompting policymakers to move a motion to terminate its contract.
Marondera Mayor Simbarashe Nyahuye confirmed the latest development.
“I can confirm that we terminated the contract.
“The reason is that residents and motorists were complaining over the employees’ poor public relations when dealing with them.
“Moreover, the clamping and towing fees were also exorbitant hence we had to intervene,” he said.
