The Municipality of Marondera has notified residents on a possible prolonged dry spell following the breakdown of the town’s water pump.
The town has been facing massive water shortages for the past three weeks with residents currently relying on water from bush pumps.
In a statement, the local authority admitted that it has not been pumping water due to a number of reasons among them a broken water pump and electrical problems.
“The Municipality of Marondera would like to inform its esteemed stakeholders of electro-mechanical breakdowns at both Rufaro and Wenimbi dams.
“Due to the incessant rains there has been service interruptions in raw water supplies from both dams attributed to a faulty transformer affected by lightning and a mechanical pump breakdown at both dams respectively,” read the the notice.
Council said it has engaged parastatals to assist in rectifying the problems.
“Efforts to rectify the problems are already underway in liaison with ZiNWA and ZETDC,” added council.
Marondera residents however blasted council for high water fees despite no pumping of the precious liquid taking place.
