Harare City Council has already regularised over 40 000 stands in its ongoing exercise.

This was revealed by the council Chairperson of the Environmental Management Committee Clr Blessing Duma.

“So far we are 60% done in terms of investigations to see if the areas are suitable for human settlement.

“We have regularised 44 000 stands across Harare.

Duma added that they, “have started the process of regularisation on various pay schemes.

These include Northmead, Mabvuku and Royal in Budiriro.

“Our target is that we must finish this process before elections.

“After this exercise they won’t be any invasions of land in Harare,” he said.

Zimbabwe’s capital is battling a wave of new illegal settlements.

These are mainly a product of politically connected land barons.

As the country goes for elections, some politicians are using land as a campaign tool.
