The Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) has accused ZANU PF of instigating the creation of fake recall letters targeting 17 Councilors and 15 MPs.

The letters were written and signed by one Sengezo Tshabangu, who claims to be the interim Secretary General for CCC.

Tshabangu purports to be recalling Councilors councillors who include Mayor of Masvingo City, Shantel Chiwara and Chairperson of the Epworth Local Board, Annah Sande.

CCC Dismisses Recall Letters

However, in a statement the CCC said the letters are fake and a product of ZANU PF.

“It has come to the attention of the CCC that there are letters purportedly written by a person designating himself as interim secretary general.

“(They are) circulating on social media claiming that the citizens movement has recalled named councilors and members of Parliament.

“Members of the public are advised to disregard these with the contempot they deserve.

“The CCC party has neither recalled nor does it intend to recall any of its recently elected deployees.

The party added that Tshabangu is not a member of the party.

“His last known parties are MDCT and PDP.

“He is renowned for being the proxy of fielding fake CCC double candidates in Bulawayo and Matebeleland North.

“The deplorable behaviour by ZANU-PF is a response to their defeat in 2023 and rejection by Zimbabwe.

It added that the tactic is “a pathetic attempt to respond to the exercise of our freedom of association in not attending the official opening of Parliament yesterday.

Is History Repeating Itself?

Deputy Spokesperson for CCC Gift Ostallos Siziba added that the letters are a none entity.

“Members of the public are advised to disregard these with the contempt they deserve,” he said.

Prior to the 2018 elections the opposition was also mauled by MDC-T leader Douglas Mwonzora who also went on a recall rampage.

The spectre of another round of recalls will likely destabilize the already precarious situation in Zimbabwe.
