Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) supporters have blasted Marondera councillors for congratulating Vice Presidents Constantino Chiwenga and Kembo Mohadi despite a disputed election result.
Council led by the newly elected mayor Abel Nyakarombo flighted the message in state owned newspaper.
However, opposition supporters took to social media and accused the councillors of being offside.
The councilors were accused of acting contrary to the party’s position regarding the disputed August 23 elections.
CCC constitutes the majority of councillors in Marondera Central.
It has control of nine out of twelve wards.
However, Nyakarombo dismissed the congratulatory advert saying councillors are not aware of it.
“We, as CCC councillors, have nothing to do with this wish.
“This is purely the hand of those who intend to cause confusion and divisions among us.
“We, as deployees, remain guided by our leadership.
“We do not act independently from the party to which we subscribe.
“I want to make it categorically clear, that whoever manufactured this article will answer questions.
“As a municipality, we do not have any one of us who can act unilaterally,” said Nyakarombo.
Nyakarombo, who is the Ward 8 councillor added:
“Anybody who makes decisions without consulting will be fighting our resolve to be a united front.
“This is one unilateral decision which was taken without consultations and engagements.
“We have no input whatsoever on this piece,” he said.
